Follow the nose. Always follow the nose.
Beagles are scent-driven adventurers who experience the world primarily through their nose. With 220 million scent receptors (compared to a human's 5 million), every walk is an expedition and every backyard is a mystery novel. They're cheerful, curious, and almost impossible to bore β as long as there's something to smell.
Beagles are textbook Explorers β curiosity-driven, scent-obsessed, and always investigating something. Some social Beagles also show Companion traits β they're pack dogs who thrive on company. Very few Beagles are Philosophers; sitting still is not in their vocabulary.
Their persistence and focus. When a Beagle is on a scent trail, nothing else exists. This single-minded determination, properly channeled, makes them exceptional at scent work, tracking, and detection.
That same nose-driven focus means recall can be challenging. A Beagle who catches a scent may completely ignore you β not out of defiance, but because their brain literally can't process anything else. Secure fencing is essential.
Every Beagle is different. While most Beagles lean toward The Explorer, your dog's individual answers reveal their true type β and it might surprise you. The free quiz takes 2 minutes.
